GOD'S HOLY NAME - ASSURANCE FOR THE PRESENT, AND INSURANCE FOR THE FUTURE APPROPRIATE MOMENT
SWAMI SHANTANANDA PURI
This satsang, given by Swami Shantananda Puri, was recorded from Sri Ramana Ashram on Friday, July 24th., just 12 hours prior to the Swami suffering a massive heart attack.
Although Swami Shantananda completely flowered in Jnana (Knowledge of God), what struck all who knew him most was his love and devotion to God. First and last, Swami Shantananda stressed a prayerful heart with an ever pure mind.
For three days prior to the event which has brought his body to the very door of departure from this world, the Swami was giving his closest disciples and friends intimate and essential spiritual instruction. During these days he was echoing the profound teachings of Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi, which can be distilled into the Vedic truth:
"PRACTICE IS NECESSARY, THERE IS GRACE."
Swami Shantananda took spiritual birth, through his Guru Sri Swami Purushottamananda, into the lineage of Paramahansa Sri Ramakrishna. Therefore it is only appropriate that we hear also the teaching from this Lover of God:
"GRACE IS ALWAYS THERE, IT IS AS PRESENT THE VERY WIND,
OUR EFFORT MUST BE TO UNFURL OUR SAIL AND CATCH IT!"
At present, Swami Shantananda has recovered to the extent that he has been discharged from the hospital. His last comment to me was: "Our job is to rely on the Divine Mother and Bhagavan alone, for we cannot begin to comprehend the meaning or purpose of their movements - which completely control our lives."
